Several success stories came out of 2013’s Pitcharama. Here’s one from Leigh Statham author of YA steampunk, The Perilous Journey of the Not So Innocuous Girl.

You entered Pitcharama last year; how did you find the whole experience?

As far as contests go, I felt is was one of the easiest ones to follow and understand. Some of the writing contests are so convoluted I give up entering halfway through reading the instructions. I also enjoyed the community I got to know by participating. It was great to cruise through other writer’s websites reading their pitches and commenting, vs. scrolling through 25 posts on one website.

This competition led you to some success; tell us your publishing happily ever after!

I was thrilled to find out I’d been picked by the fantastic Stacey Nash to move onto the editor’s round. Once there, I had four requests from different editors to send partial or full manuscripts. This was another huge surprise and I was delighted. It took a few weeks after I sent off the requests, but then the offers started rolling in. When all was said and done, I had four offers for publication and I ended up picking Month9Books because I felt their platform and offer fit my book and my career plans the best. It has definitely been the highlight of my writing career to date. Nothing feels better than finding out that other people love the work you’ve slaved over. Plus I made new friends that I hope I can hang onto for life.

Now, for the details: WHEN AND WHERE CAN WE BUY YOUR BOOK?

The Perilous Journey of the Not-So-Innocuous Girl will be available everywhere December of 2014 from Month9Books.

Lady Marguerite lives a life most 17th century French girls can only dream of: money, designer dresses, suitors and a secure future. Except she suspects she may be falling for her best friend Claude, a common smithie in the family’s steam forge. When Claude leaves for New France in search of a better life, Marguerite decides to follow him and test her suspicions of love. But the trip proves more harrowing than she had anticipated, revealing secrets and testing her strength as well as her heart. Love, adventure and restitution await her in Canada, but only if she can survive the voyage.

 Add it on goodreads!

If you’d like to be part of this year’s pitcharama make sure you submit your pitch on the 16th, or pitch your mate on the 21st.
