In this round, you’ll pitch on your own blog. We’ll have a linky list here on Aussie Owned you’ll need to join. 1. […] Tell us what makes Soul Mate Publishing unique. Soul Mate Publishing works closely with authors with everything from cover art to revisions to the final product. We take a hand’s-on approach to ensure a high-quality, entertaining book is put up for sale. What’s on your current wish list? We are seeking all romance genre areas except YA at this time. We are looking to expand into NA  so all submissions for that genre are welcome. We are also looking for Regencies, Highlander Romance, Westerns, and futuristics. Is there something for you that’s a big query no-no? I can’t say I’ve seen anything that I’d consider a no-no. However, blaming poor spelling and grammar on a voice recognition program has to be the most humorous response to a request for corrections and a resubmit I’ve ever received. When you read a query, what are you hoping to see? I’m hoping to see a fresh voice, someone who’s comfortable with who they are and what they write. That will show in the query. Soul Mate publishes many cross-genre stories and I love that. We usually see twists and story lines and even setting that haven’t been done before. What author would you love to publish? I know this author who writes for another (major) house that won’t let her explore her true passion, humor. I would love to work with her. 2. […] Tell us what makes Swoon Romance unique. Swoon Romance is a digital-first publisher of contemporary YA, New Adult, and adult romance.  All of our books go through a rigorous, multi-stage editorial process. We work very closely with our authors and value their input on everything from cover design to marketing. At Swoon Romance, we’re a family of staff and authors who work together to bring readers great, swoon-worthy reads. What’s on your current wish list? Currently, I’m acquiring for Swoon Romance. To that end, I’m always looking for the next happily-ever-after, and I don’t so much care whether the path there is of the sweet or the sexy variety. I’m interested in contemporary YA, adult, and New Adult. In New Adult, I’m particularly looking for collegial or home-for-the-summer settings, and I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing more New Adult paranormal romance. My current list of genre favorites include The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden, Wait for You, and Crash. I’d love to see more dual-narrative POVs, male protagonists who are not necessarily McHottie (ala Beauty and the Beast), unique contemporary fairy-tale retellings, quirky female protagonists with heart, witty dialogue, a relatable voice, settings with as much personality as the characters, deeply flawed but redeemable men, and clever humor. I like a lighthearted tone over a deeply emotive one, and I love to see complex characters in familiar situations. Is there something for you that’s a big query no-no? Yes. Bad grammar and punctuation. Spell-check, people. I don’t mind a couple of mistakes (they happen!) but when I see a query with more than that I start to roll my eyes and think “if this author doesn’t care enough about their story to proofread their query, then why should I?” When you read a query, what are you hoping to see? The obvious, for starters: a good storyline that snags my attention. Something new, or a unique twist on a tried-and-true plot. But I also look for a cohesive, solid few paragraphs. I want an author who can craft a query that flows well and keeps my interest. If they can do that with a query, I get excited to see what they can do with a book. What author would you love to publish? Okay, I’m aware this answer sounds like a cop-out, but I couldn’t be happier with the authors we have now. We don’t just publish stories, we publish writers, and we love every single one of our authors as much as their stories. We’re a family, and one that’s always growing. 3. […] 13 06 2013 Today’s the last day before Pitcharama starts and we have Turquoise Morning Press here for our final spotlight. Tell us what makes Turquoise Morning Press unique. Even though we are a small press, often referred to as Print On Demand, our size has nothing to do with our output. We house over 150 authors with a 3 1/2 years of weekly published books, novellas and anthologies. We offer our readers a variety of genres which allows our authors to flourish. We are have small town mentality but big city dreams. What’s on your current wish list? As a YA Editor, I’m looking for more contemporary stories. Strong heroines and heroes. Problems. Adversity. And a YA must, kissing! Is there something for you that’s a big query no-no? Don’t submit unless you’ve read our submission guidelines. It only takes a few minutes and can save both of us a lot of time and heartache. If I’m borderline on your story, not following the directions can take a maybe to a no. When you read a query, what are you hoping to see? A creative story. Clean writing. I understand there will always be edits but I don’t want to spend countless nights correcting something that should have been caught when the author was editing theirselves. What author would you love to publish? I don’t have a All-Star list. I take each submission and author one-at-a-time. To me, a great story is only better with a great author. For more information on Turquoise Morning Press visit their website hereand don’t forget to pitch come back tomorrow for the first round of Pitcharama! […]
