I’m Sharon, blogger, writer, PR expert and social media strategist from Queensland *Queenslander!* For the past couple of years I’ve been the lone Aussie on YAtopia and last year I blogged with Writing Teen Novels as well as presented at the Whitsunday Voices Youth Literature Festival on social media and blogging.
I’ve been published in two anthologies THE BASICS OF LIFE and THE LIFE AND TIMES OF CHESTER LEWIS. My story KARMA was runner up in the Australian Literary Review’s YA short story competition and Broken Butterfly Wings was a finalist for their Trouble Families short story competition.
Book wise, I will read just about anything interesting, but I gravitate towards YA fiction under the speculative umbrella. With my writing I predominately write YA and NA across multiple genres, but also have been known to dabble in other categories and genre. I let the story idea guide me rather than the genre. My first novel, SLEEPER, is out on submission and I hope to have some good news to share with you soon.
Originally I went to uni to study law and hated it and ending up with a Bachelor of Communication instead. I did a stint as a journalist before moving into PR. I’ve currently got this job with a huge fancy title that basically means I’m the head of PR for the company I work for. I also freelance with writing and social media strategy.
I love Australian writing and feel so honoured to have met some, including Cath Crowley, Steph Bowe and Andy Griffiths. I can say that Aussie writers aren’t just talented, but fun and awesome.
My family are really supportive of my writing. I’ve got a wonderful (sexy hot) husband and two gorgeous kids. We love being active as a family and going to the beach.
The Aussie icon I most relate to is the platypus, because I’m a little bit weird and so is my writing. Plus there’s a colony of platypus about an hour’s drive from my place.
